How to handle client complaints

Even the most diligent and professional therapists may one day have to deal with a complaint from a client. The MAA Complaints Brochure outlines the key steps that therapists can take to manage complaints quickly and prevent them escalating. It also includes links to the official complaints channels for each State and Territory throughout Australia.

Client complaints: Important information for massage therapists in Queensland

There have been a number of recent complaints from clients in Queensland about the quality of treatment they are receiving from therapists (Unregistered Health Professionals which includes Massage Therapists).

Most complaints are about the lack of information given by the therapist about the type of therapy they are receiving.

The Queensland Government has information available to massage therapists to use as guidance and to display in their offices.

Please take a look at the links and resources below to help make sure you understand and work within the relevant Code of Conduct, minimise the risks of client complaints and understand the information you should display to your clients.

Medibank requirements for recognised providers

To avoid risking losing your provider status, make sure you carefully read through Medibank's Requirments for Recognised Providers. In particular, we've had reports of therapists losing their provider status because their clinical environment does not comply with the 'Facilities' requirements. Other problems include therapists' business structure nor future plans not aligning with the requirements.
